Global Medical Brigades - September 2014
Global Brigades is an international NGO that helps bridge the global community by arranging college students from across the world to volunteer at under served populations. They have many different factions that range from helping through micro finance, water, dental, architectural and a few more. In September of 2014, I went with UW's Global Medical Brigade to Nicaragua for 9 days where we set up temporary clinics in rural areas and saw hundreds of patients for four days and worked on constructing sanitation stations for various community for 3 days. This gave me an opportunity to shadow physicians for 4 days which further inspired me to pursue medicine. It was rewarding to be able to help these people by setting up the clinics, but it would be even nicer to be actually be involved in treating them. It was clear that the physicians made an impact on the health of these patients lives and the patients were extremely thankful.
